ALT. Open Air is an outdoor camping festival at Mankele Campsite, in the Mpumalanga bush. This page sets out the risks of attending, what we ask of you in return, and how basic safety is handled on site. It forms part of our [Terms and Conditions] and applies to every ticket holder.
1. Acknowledgment of risk
By attending the Festival, you accept that outdoor events in a natural, off-grid setting carry inherent risks — including but not limited to uneven terrain, weather (heat, rain, lightning), wildlife and insects, crowd movement, noise exposure, and the general risks of camping. You attend voluntarily, aware that these risks exist and cannot all be eliminated even with careful planning on our part.
2. Indemnity and waiver of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, the Organiser is not liable for any injury, illness, loss, or damage arising from your attendance at the Festival, however caused, except where such liability cannot lawfully be excluded — including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. By attending, you indemnify the Organiser against claims arising from your own attendance, or that of anyone in your group, save for liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
3. Personal property
We are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal belongings (including tents, vehicles, and valuables) while on site. Bring only what you’re comfortable being without, and consider not leaving valuables unattended at your campsite.
4. Alcohol and substances
This is an 18+ event. Valid ID is required at the gate. Illegal drugs are prohibited on site. Anyone found in possession of, dealing, or visibly under the influence of illegal substances will be removed without refund and may be handed to law enforcement.
5. Prohibited items
The following may not be brought on site, and will be confiscated at the gate: weapons of any kind, glass containers, fireworks or pyrotechnics, unauthorised drones, and any item reasonably deemed a safety risk by our security team. [Confirm this list against your venue and security provider’s actual policy before publishing.]
6. Medical emergencies
In a medical emergency, you consent to receive emergency treatment as deemed necessary by on-site medical staff or emergency services, at your own cost where applicable. [Confirm on-site medical provision — first-aid tent, paramedics on standby, nearest hospital — before publishing, so this section can point people to it directly.]
7. Weather and safety instructions
Mpumalanga can produce sudden, severe weather, including lightning. Follow all safety instructions from staff, security, or signage without delay, including any instruction to evacuate an area or shelter in place. Failure to do so may result in removal from the Festival without refund.
8. Right of admission and removal
We reserve the right to refuse entry to, or remove without refund, anyone who acts dangerously, disorderly, or offensively, or who fails to comply with staff instructions or these terms.
9. No re-entry
[Confirm policy: many camping festivals allow re-entry since attendees are staying on site for multiple days — if that’s the case here, this section should say so plainly, since a strict day-festival “no re- entry” clause doesn’t fit a 3-day camping event.]
10. Photography and media
By attending, you consent to being photographed or filmed for the Organiser’s promotional and marketing use, without compensation. If you’d rather not appear in published material, let a staff member know on the day so we can note it.
11. Governing law
This page is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa and forms part of our Terms and Conditions, including the jurisdiction clause set out there.
